Siesta Key Farmers Market: The Place To Be On Sundays

The Siesta Key Farmers Market, a Sunday morning institution on Siesta Key that can draw as many as 2,000 participants

Siesta Key is best-known for sparkling, sunny Siesta Beach, consistently ranked as the top beach in North America, and rightfully so. The sugary-white sand, soft and powdery, combines with the semi-tropical climate, the azure-blue waters of the Gulf, and an impressive number of man-made conveniences and amenities to make Siesta Beach both beautiful and visitor-friendly. But on Sunday mornings, it’s almost always deserted. A lot of local residents and in-the-know visitors are somewhere else on Sundays...

They’re at the delightful Siesta Key Farmers Market, a Sunday morning institution on Siesta Key that can draw as many as 2,000 participants. Local venders display and sell fresh-cut flowers, soaps, coffee, teas, pastries, breads, cheeses, jellies, sauces, seafood, and sandwiches. You can view exquisite, delicate orchids, and you’ll have a chance to enjoy scrumptious cookies and cakes. The Siesta Key Farmers Market offers spices and herbs, a variety of delicious produce, and an array of locally-produced organic items. The produce displays always see the most action; the prices are fantastic, and dozens of different tasty vegetables and fruits are displayed and sold each Sunday. Live music from the area’s most popular performers is always part of the joyous weekly festivities.

Although shoppers can also find candles, organic cleaning products, and other non-edibles, food items are the prime offerings at the Siesta Key Farmers Market. The Market is distinctive in the greater Sarasota area; it tends to feature only a few “arts and crafts” displays because they’re so prominently featured at other area markets and festivals across the Sarasota area. The Siesta Key Farmers Market promotes local organic agriculture and awareness. In addition to their displays and sales, most vendors provide educational information about local organic resources and encourage customer awareness of health and environmental concerns.

The Siesta Key Farmers Market also creates a sense of community and solidarity in the Siesta Key Village neighborhood. It’s something many locals look forward to weekly. Every Sunday morning of the year, rain or shine, the Farmers Market is located
in Davidson's Plaza, at 5124 Ocean Boulevard in Siesta Key Village. Hours are 8:00 a.m. through 12:00 p.m.
