Drum Circle Distilling

Within the past twenty years or so, taste testing and discovering new fine wines, local craft brews, and locally distilled liquors has become a hobby for many residents of Sarasota, including those that live on Siesta Key. With many wineries, local breweries, and local distilleries in the southwestern Florida area, one in particular stands out, and it rests right on Siesta Key.

The Drum Circle Distillery is known for its out-of-this-world rums. They offer Siesta Key Spiced Rum, Gold Rum, and Silver Rum that are crafted and produced right on the key. They have won a series of prestigious awards for their highly acclaimed rums including the 2012 Taste Test Award Winner from Cooking Light Magazine for their Spiced Rum. They were also the only U.S.-owned distillery awarded for their Spiced Rum by The Caribbean Rum & Beer Festival in 2013. While located amidst an industrial park at 2212 Industrial Blvd., the distillery’s modest surroundings do not compare with its top-notch quality.

The Drum Circle Distillery will offer Siesta Key Rum Tours several times this month. These tours are complimentary to visitors. According to the distillery’s website, the tours typically last for approximately 40 minutes and will lead you through the procedure they use to craft their unique rum.  The tours also offer complimentary samples of their signature rums at the end of the tour. The distillery also features a gift shop and tasting center where you can sample rums and buy souvenir shot glasses or bottles of one-of-a-kind Siesta Key style rum. The Drum Circle website asks that you arrive early if you decide to head there for a visit.

An upcoming tour will take place at The Drum Circle Distillery on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 2:45 p.m. Try to dress comfortably and appropriated for the day and time of year. As always, always make sure to drink safely and responsibly.
